Overview

Applications for Nanobubble Technology

NanoSWIM builds systems for three nanobubble applications: swimming pools and aquatic facilities, municipal and industrial water treatment, and live fish transport. The underlying physics is the same in all three — an enormous gas-transfer surface and oxidation that leaves no chemical residue — but the buyer, the regulations and the payback are different in each. This page is the map. Each application then has its own page with the engineering detail.

Three applications, three separate pages. Start with the one that matches your facility.

Up to 90% Less chemical use Measured against conventional dosing on comparable installations.
99.9% Pathogen reduction Oxidative disinfection in the treatment loop.
Up to 40% Energy savings Energy-efficient by design. Ask any supplier for kW draw at your own flow rate.

Swimming pools and aquatic facilities

This is the largest application and the one most customers arrive through. A pool has to hold its water quality against a bather load that changes hour by hour, inside a building where the air is often more of a problem than the water. Nanobubbles carry the oxidation and disinfection load so that chlorine dosing falls sharply or stops altogether, which is what removes chloramines, the chlorine smell and the stinging eyes. Swimming pool water treatment covers private pools, hotel and spa pools, municipal facilities and therapy pools — and the requirements are genuinely different in each of those.

Municipal and industrial water treatment

In municipal water treatment and industrial plants the value is process economics rather than comfort. Efficient oxygen and ozone transfer raises dissolved oxygen where the biology needs it, oxidises the compounds behind sludge and odour, and cuts the volume of material that has to be handled and paid for downstream. The same equipment is used on process water, cooling circuits and water reuse schemes, where the driver is usually a discharge consent or an operating cost that has stopped being acceptable.

Live fish transport and aquaculture

Transport is the point in a farmed fish’s life where water quality changes fastest. Dissolved oxygen has to stay stable in a closed tank carrying a high biomass while ammonia rises and stress accumulates. Nanobubble oxygenation holds oxygen in solution instead of losing most of it at the surface, which is why it is used for live fish transport and wider aquaculture water treatment. Our sister company NanoMAR covers the industrial and aquaculture side of this work.

For wellboats specifically, NanoSWIM offers two separate systems through a pilot programme: the ABAN-20 oxygenation module for stable oxygen with fish on board, and the ARVAND-O3 skid for closed-loop disinfection of the empty wells between assignments. See wellboat oxygenation and disinfection.

Proven benefits across every application

Four effects show up regardless of what the water is for, because they all come from the same mechanism:

  • Lower chemical use. Less to buy, less to store, less to handle — and in a pool hall, better bather comfort as a direct consequence.
  • Pathogen reduction. Bubble collapse disrupts cell membranes, reducing microbial load without leaving a residue behind.
  • Higher oxygen transfer. Far more of the gas actually dissolves, which is what supports both biological treatment stages and live fish.
  • Sustainability. Less sludge and odour to manage, less chemical transport, and no by-products that have to be neutralised afterwards.

Real results from our installations

Two published references sit behind the numbers on this page. A resort pool complex reduced chlorine use by 85% after switching to nanobubble treatment, and an Atlantic salmon RAS facility recorded 28% higher survival through grow-out. Both are written up with the setup, what was measured and the caveats that go with it. See references.

Not sure which application fits you?

Being straight about the boundaries saves everyone time. Nanobubble treatment is a circulation-loop technology: it works on water that passes through the system, so there has to be a loop to install into and a flow rate to design around. It does not replace filtration, and on its own it leaves no lasting residual in a pool basin, which matters where regulations require one. It is strongest where chemical spend, air quality, oxygen demand or water clarity carry real financial weight.

Send us the water volume, the flow rate and what you are currently dosing, and we will tell you which application page applies — including when the honest answer is that your existing setup is already the right one.

The three applications in detail

Each page covers the engineering, the regulations that apply and the cost picture for that use.

Swimming pools and aquatic facilities

Crystal-clear water, no chlorine smell in the hall, and a chemical budget that drops. Private, hotel, public and therapy pools.

Swimming pools and aquatic facilities

Municipal and industrial water treatment

Cleaner effluent, less sludge and odour, and better oxygen transfer in biological stages — with no chemical dosing added.

Live fish transport

Stable dissolved oxygen from loading to delivery, less ammonia and lower stress in wellboats and transport tanks.
